The Great Map of India

This week in Year 4 we have had a very creative week making thing. On Monday we made flow diagrams with Mr. Weale in Literacy. We are going to use them later on in the week when we are going to write up how our school day is organised. That way all our mums and dads will know exactly what we do at school all day!
On Tuesday we went into the computer suite and typed up our poems which we wrote with Miss Horner. They we all about teachers so they made very interesting reading. Also on Tuesday after school some of the boys played in a football match against Charlestown school. Unfortunately, we lost 1-0 which was a bit disappointing because it was the first match any football team from Sandy Hill had lost this season. However, the boys did their best and played well.
Wednesday we did art in the afternoon. We are looking at India at the moment in geography and  so we are in the middle of making a giant 3-D map, of india. We made lots of different things to put on the map, such as mountains made out of old egg cups, rivers made from coloured pieces of string, trees for the forest made from old newspapers. Hopefully next week we will have finished it so we hope to have a few photos in next weeks blog. On Thursday, we were supposed to go outside for P.E. However, because it poured with rain we could not. Football club was also cancelled because of the bad weather so we will have to wait until next Thursday for more football.
On Friday it seemed as if every one in the whole school was having school dinners! Mr Weale thinks it is because everyone likes eating chips! Next week we are going on a short trip to the local church in St Austell as part of our RE topic, which should be good fun. Well done to Liam Gummow on winning Star Of the Week last week for the first time- great work Liam,a picture is attached.

Mother`s Day & Paper Mache.

This week in Year 4 has been a really busy week. On Monday we did a science investigation involving ice cubes and how to stop them from melting. Mr Weale suggested putting a woolly jumper on them!
Tuesday we went into the computer suite to finish off our newspaper headlines about our trip to Penrice. After school some of our boys went off to play a football match against Fowey school. Liam Gummow was really excited because he played his first game for the team in goal. He must have played well because we won 1-0 with Jack Taylor scoring a great goal from a free kick. So well done to all the boys who played.
Wednesday we made some very special cards for Mothers Day which is this Sunday. However, Mr Weale said we weren`t allowed to give them to our Mums until Sunday. Which means we will have to keep them a secret until then! On Thursday we did D.T in the afternoon with Miss Horner. We made some mountains to put on our map of India out of paper mache. It was really messy and there was lots and lots of clearing up! After school of us went to football club which is great fun because we always play a whole at the end. It even better this week because it was a nice sunny day and the field was dry.
On Friday Morning we did our normal Friday things like reading comprehension and times tables test, then in the afternoon we went outside to do P.E with Mr Weale because it was such a nice day again, we went on the field because there was much more space and room for everyone to run around.

Jumble sale & World book day

This week has been one of the most exciting weeks of the term so far! One Wednesday we had a jumble sale organised by the School Council to help raise money for the disaster in Haiti. Every class got a chance to go into the hall and look for any bargains. Every one had a really good time, there were even home made cakes for sale, which pleased Mr Weale. It was also a non school uniform day which meant everyone came to school in their favourite clothes.

On Thursday it was World Book Day. This meant that everyone could come to school dressed as a character from a book. Our class did really well. Lots of people came in fancy dress. Some came dressed as pirates, some as characters from Alice in wonderland and some as famous footballers. Even Mr Weale dressed up as James Bond for the day. As part of the day, we made special World Book Day posters and then in the afternoon we went down to Year R/1 to read some of our favourite book to the infants. We even special assembly with the whole school to share all the different things we did during the day.It was by far the highlight of the week. We have attached some pictures to the blog for you to have a look at.

On Friday, Miss Horner was teaching us all day which was nice. In the morning we had our normal times tables test and we also started to write up our poem. In the afternoon we went outside and played more hockey in P.E. Next week we are going to start learning to play tennis!
Lasts weeks Star of the Week was Elli Tubb, again a picture is attached, so Well Done to Elli!!!

The New Learning Tree

Another busy week has gone by, the first week back from half term. It seemed everyone had a good break doing lots of fun stuff such as going to the pictures, swimming and sleepovers with friends.
On Monday, we started lots of new topics, in Literacy we started to look at different type's of poetry, the first one was all about wet playtimes, which is Mr Weale`s favourite thing about school! In Numeracy we are looking at fractions which are proving to be a little bit tricky, however we all think that we will be experts by the end of the week!
In Science we have started to look at temperature. Miss Horner brought in a balloon made from ice which was very interesting, very cold. We then measured the temperature of different bowls of water using a thermometer.
Also this week we have made a new leaning tree which we are going to put up in the classroom. If we work hard and keep trying hard we will get our own leaf with our picture on it on the tree! We are all very excited to see who will be the first person to get their leaf on the new tree.
There was no football match this week and no football club on Thursday because it was raining hard. Hopefully, next week both things will be on as normal.
On Friday we are doing PE outside. We played hockey and were practicing shooting at the small football goals. After that we played small games against each other.
Next week will be really exciting because we are celebrating World Book Day on Thursday and there is also a jumble sale organised by the school council on Wednesday.

Year 4.

P.E at Penrice

A very busy, exciting week in year 4 this week. The great weather meant that we could get outside and do stuff which has pleased Mr Weale lots. On Monday we did a very interesting science investigation about gravity with Miss Horner. On Tuesday we all had to come to school early in our PE kit to go to Penrice to use their gym all morning. It was great ! We went up in the mini bus which was driven by Miss King. When we were there we did all sorts of different sports including basketball, netball, street surfing and parachute games. A great time was had by all. Mr Weale said we were all brilliant and so WELL behaved!!!
Also on Tuesday the year 3 & 4 team played Mevagissey. Jack Taylor, Stuart Strongman and Liam Phillips from our class all took part and helped the team to win 2-0 win. Well done the boys!
Wednesday we did some tests which were ok. However, in the afternoon we did some fantastic painting in art of tigers. On Thursday we had to do some more tests which were not as difficult as we thought. In the afternoon we played hockey and practised our shooting into the goals. Tyler Whelan scored some excellent goals! We also had some chinese food for lunch. Football club took place after school which was great fun although it was a little cold!
Friday, the last day before half term. In the morning we finished our tiger  pictures, then went in the computer suite to e-mail Penrice school to thank them for using their gym. In the afternoon we had a special treat and watched a DVD because we all did so WELL in our tests which will really please Mr Weale and hopefully Mr Fielder as well.

Have a good break.
